Carrots can eat raw carrots safely, as long as the pieces are chopped quite small to avoid choking. Raw carrots are particularly good for your puppy when teething, as they give them something to bite down on. And the benefit to their teeth doesn’t end there, raw carrots can also break down the biofilm of bacteria and plaque on your dog’s teeth, helping to keep their teeth healthy for longer.
Yorkies can eat cooked carrots and he high fiber content might be useful to reduce anal gland problems too!
Your Yorkie, and any other dog, can eat broccoli. These are suitable both cooked and raw, but you shouldn’t add any seasoning, cooking oils, or fats.
Yorkies can eat potatoes, as long as they’re not green or discolored, but potatoes are very high in carbohydrates so we don’t recommend feeding potatoes on a consistent basis. Underripe potatoes contain harmful compounds that are also found in the potato plant itself. These are toxic to dogs. It’s also worth remembering that mashed potato, roast potatoes, and other potato dishes often contain lots of fat and dairy, both of which could cause your dog to have vomiting or diarrhea.
Your Yorkie can eat sweetcorn, as long as you don’t give them the corn cob. Just like potatoes, corn is very high in carbohydrates so we don’t recommend feeding corn on a consistent basis either. Corn cobs can easily cause a blockage in your dog’s gut if swallowed, which would mean emergency surgery to remove it. For this reason, you should always make sure corn cobs are placed in the trash and the trash is kept out of reach of your dogs. Dogs can’t digest corn kernels very easily, so it’s quite normal to see them in your dog’s poop.
